Why does Bible Break need "Display over other apps" permission?

Android requires explicit user permission (SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW) for any app that displays content on top of other running applications. When your break interval arrives, Bible Break opens a full-screen or banner overlay with a calming Scripture passage and reflection countdown.

Without this permission, the app can only send a standard notification, which is easy to miss when you are deep in screen work.

Why did my break timer stop running or delay its reminder?

Modern Android devices, especially models from manufacturers such as Samsung, Xiaomi, Huawei, and OnePlus, feature aggressive battery management software that shuts down background apps when the screen turns off.

To ensure your timer operates reliably:

  1. Open your phone's Settings app.
  2. Go to Apps > Bible Break > Battery.
  3. Set the battery usage option to "Unrestricted" (or disable "Optimize battery usage").
  4. Ensure background data and notifications are allowed.
Does Bible Break require an internet connection?

No. The complete text of the King James Version Bible is stored directly on your phone. You can read books, chapters, search for verses, create bookmarks, and use the break timer on planes, in remote areas, or without mobile data.

An internet connection is only needed if you wish to purchase or restore Bible Break Premium through Google Play.

How does the "Pause during selected apps" feature work?

If you don't want a break overlay popping up while you are navigating with GPS, taking a phone call, or using your camera, you can select those apps in Bible Break Settings.

When you enable this, Android asks for Usage Access permission. Bible Break checks the foreground app package locally on your phone. This information is processed strictly in temporary device memory. It is never logged, stored, or transmitted anywhere.

How do I add the Scripture widget to my Android home screen?

To add the daily Scripture widget:

  1. Touch and hold an empty space on your Android home screen.
  2. Tap Widgets in the popup menu.
  3. Scroll down to find Bible Break.
  4. Touch and hold the Scripture Widget and drag it to your preferred position.
  5. You can resize the widget horizontally or vertically to fit your screen layout.
How do I restore my Premium purchase on a new device?

Your purchase is permanently linked to your Google Play account. When you install Bible Break on a new device:

  1. Ensure you are signed into the Google Play Store with the same Google Account used for the purchase.
  2. Open Bible Break and navigate to Settings.
  3. Tap Restore Purchases. Google Play will verify your active entitlement and immediately restore your Premium features.
How do I cancel or manage my subscription?

Because all billing is handled directly through Google Play, you can manage your subscription at any time:

  1. Open the Google Play Store app on your Android device.
  2. Tap your Profile picture/icon in the top-right corner.
  3. Select Payments & subscriptions, then tap Subscriptions.
  4. Tap Bible Break and select Cancel subscription.

Your Premium features will remain active until the end of your current billing period.

How do I delete my notes or reset reading progress?

Because all your data is stored locally on your device, you have total control:

  • Within the app: You can remove individual bookmarks, highlights, or notes by tapping on the saved item and selecting delete.
  • Complete reset: To reset all progress and settings, open your Android device's Settings > Apps > Bible Break > Storage > Clear Storage / Clear Data.
  • Uninstalling: Simply uninstalling Bible Break completely purges all local data from your phone.
